Charlotte NC Sedation Dentists
If you have been unable to find a skilled Charlotte NC sedation dentist, we have good news for you. Sleep and sedation dentistry is now available for Charlotte patients who were previously unable to get traditional dental care. Dr. David Kurtzman, DDS, and his compassionate staff offer a complete range of sleep and sedation dentistry to patients throughout the southeast.
Sleep and sedation dentistry is a highly specialized type of dentistry in which the dentist uses an appropriate level of sedation to provide the patient with a comfortable, pain and anxiety free dental care experience.
Hospital Sleep Dentist
Many dentists advertise “sedation dentistry”, but only a very few hospital sleep dentists like Dr. Kurtzman who have received extensive training in advanced sedation techniques can offer a full range of sedation options from mild conscious sedation to full unconscious sedation.
Mild sedation is achieved through oral sedatives that relax the patient and reduce the level of anxiety many patients feel. Intravenous sedation provides a deeper and more controlled level of sedation. Dr. Kurtzman can control the amount of sedative delivered to the patient and keep the patient at an even level of sedation for the duration of the procedure.
Both IV and oral sedation are conscious sedation. The patient is in a relaxed, drowsy state, but can respond to questions. Some patients are so relaxed that they doze off during the procedure, but they are never unconscious. Dr. Kurtzman usually treats patients under conscious sedation in his modern dental office.
Hospital Dental Care
Dr. Kurtzman uses a specially equipped surgical suite at a hospital for hospital dental care under general anesthesia. Fully unconscious sedation using general anesthesia is the deepest level of sedation
There are many different types of special needs patients who can benefit from sleep and sedation dentistry. These include patients with mild to severe dental anxiety, severe gag reflex, or who need extensive dental treatment. Any patient who has trouble keeping still during dental care is an excellent candidate for sleep and sedation dentistry including small children, patients with developmental or physical disabilities, or patients with illnesses like Parkinson’s or Muscular Dystrophy.
