Georgia Dentist who Treats Patients with Developmental Disabilities
It can be a challenge to find a Georgia dentist who treats patients with developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Fragile X Syndrome, moderate to severe retardation, seizure disorders, Down’s Syndrome and more make it very difficult or even impossible for patients with these disabilities to receive complex dental work in a traditional dentist office setting. Most dental offices are simply not equipped to treat these types of patients.
Treating patients with developmental disabilities in a traditional dental office setting can be dangerous for the patients as well as the dentist providing the care. Dr. David Kurtzman has worked hard to create a practice that provides safe, effective, pain-free dental care for patients with developmental disabilities. Our office is specially equipped to handle patients with some types of developmental disabilities. However, for many patients with these problems, it is safer to provide dental treatment in a hospital setting. Dr. Kurtzman treats this special group of patients in specially equipped operating rooms in Wellstar Windy Hill and Kennestone Hospitals under general anesthesia.
We offer the high-quality comprehensive dental care previously available in a dental office only to able-bodied and minded individuals to “Special Needs” clients and their families in the safety and security of the hospital operating room. Our care extends from the oral care and dental care structure of the families and caregivers.
Dental Care & Developmental Disability
Dr. Kurtzman provides comfortable, compassionate Atlanta dental care for patients with developmental disabilities. In a hospital operating room, patients with developmental disabilities are either sedated, or placed under general anesthesia by a trained anesthesiologist. Their heart rate, breathing and vital signs are closely monitored for the entire time they are receiving treatment. This enables Dr. Kurtzman to ensure patients’ safety while providing effective and pain-free dental treatment.
David Kurtzman, DDS accepts referrals for patients with developmental disabilities from other dental practices. Patients travel from as far as South Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama to see a dentist with Dr. Kurtzman’s level of expertise. By sending these patients to Dr. Kurtzman, dentists can best meet the needs of “hard-to-treat” patients and free up their time to treat the patients they serve best. This also removes the liabilities that these special care patients tend to bring with them from their practices. Once these patients are effectively treated, they are sent back to their referring dentist for recall and recare.
If you or a patient in your practice has a developmental disability such as autism, cerebral palsy, Fragile X Syndrome, moderate to severe retardation, seizure disorders or Down’s Syndrome and is in need of dental care, please contact our Dentists who Treats Patients with Developmental Disabilities at David Kurtzman, DDS today to schedule a consultation. We look forward to hearing from you.
