Georgia Dentist Who Treats Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury
It can be difficult to find a good Georgia dentist who treats patients with traumatic brain injury. A traumatic brain injury, also referred to as an intracranial injury, occurs when an outside force traumatically injures the brain. A traumatic brain injury is a result of a severe or moderate force to the head where physical portions of the brain are damaged and functioning is impaired. Symptoms may include headaches, confusion, dizziness, mood changes, irritability, memory and concentration problems, seizures, and sleep disturbances.
The symptoms discussed above make it difficult or even impossible to treat traumatic brain injury patients in a traditional dental office setting. Most dental offices are simply not equipped to handle these special care patients in performing complex dental work.
We offer the high quality comprehensive dental care previously available in a dental office only to able bodied and minded inviduals to “Special Needs” clients and their families in the safety and security of the hospital operating room. Our care extends from the oral care and dental care structure of the families and caregivers.

Dr. Kurtzman and his staff are familiar traumatic brain injuries and have experience treating patients who have been affected by them. Our office is specially equipped to handle special care patients, however, it is safer to treat most traumatic brain injury patients in a hospital setting under general anesthesia.
Dr. Kurtzman treats traumatic brain injury patients in specially equipped operating rooms at Wellstar Windy Hill and Kennestone Hospitals. In the operating rooms, patients are placed under general anesthesia by an Anesthesiologist or specially trained Anesthetist under a doctor’s supervision. Patients are closely monitored the entire time they are receiving treatment. Treating traumatic brain injury patients in a hospital setting enables Dr. Kurtzman to provide them with effective, pain-free dental care while at the same time ensuring their safety.
David Kurtzman, DDS gladly accepts traumatic brain injury patients who are referred from other dental practices. Referring these patients to Dr. Kurtzman enables them to receive the special care they require and removes the liabilities that often come with them from other dental practices. Once they are effectively treated, patients are sent back to their referring dental office for recall and recare.
